A glass of red fruit punch garnished with a cinnamon stick sits on a table. Nearby are a bowl of fresh cranberries, a glass pitcher with more punch, and a few scattered cranberries. The scene is set against a warm, red backdrop.

This recipe makes enough for two cocktails, but is perfect to batch ahead and serving at your next holiday gathering!

Equipment

Ingredients

For the Spiced Cranberry Syrup

  • ½ Cup Cranberry Cocktail
  • ½ Cup Cane Sugar
  • 1 Inch Fresh Ginger peeled and thinly sliced
  • ½ Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • ½ Cup Cranberries frozen or fresh
  • 1 Orange zested

For the Spiced Cranberry Orange Margaritas:

  • 3 Ounces Tequila Blanco
  • 2 Ounces Cointreau
  • 3 Ounces Cranberry Cocktail
  • 1 ½ Ounces Lime Juice
  • 1 Ounce Orange Juice
  • 1 Ounce Spiced Cranberry Syrup
  • 1 Handful Ice Cubes

For Garnishing

  • 1-2 Ice Cubes I like to add cranberry juice and fresh cranberries to an ice cube tray and freezing them to make festive ice cubes!
  • 1 Cinnamon Stick

Instructions

How to Make the Syrup:

  • To make these cocktails, start by preparing the Spiced Cranberry Syrup. Heat a small saucepan, on the stove, over medium heat, and add in all of the syrup ingredients: the cranberry cocktail, cane sugar, fresh ginger knob, cinnamon, cranberries, and orange zest.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring often.
  • Once the mixture has begun to simmer (the sugar will dissolve and the cranberries will start to burst), remove the syrup from the heat and set it aside for 10 minutes, until it starts to thicken and the flavors develop.
  • After the 10 minutes are up, strain the syrup into a large jar, removing all of the remaining cranberry chunks.
  • Allow the syrup to cool completely in the jar, then store it in the fridge until you're ready to prepare the cocktails.

How to Make the Spiced Cranberry Orange Margaritas:

  • To prepare the margaritas, start by filling a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Next, add the tequila blanco, cointreau, cranberry cocktail, lime juice, orange juice, and the spiced cranberry syrup to the cocktail shaker. Shake to fully combine.
  • Finally, add ice to two margarita glasses and divide the drink evenly amongst the two glasses.
  • Garnish the drinks with some festive ice cubes or a cinnamon stick, if desired. Then, serve and enjoy!
