What You Need for This Simple Sink Hack

You’ll only need two ingredients (plus, an ice cube tray) in order to keep your sink perfectly stink-free!

  • 🍋 Lemon Peels: This hack is the perfect way to use your leftover lemon peels! Simply save your lemon peel scraps by placing them into a ziplock bag, in the fridge, until you’re ready to use them. It’s that easy!
  • 🧊 White Vinegar: White vinegar has been a not-so-secret natural alternative to house cleaner for years, which means that it’s perfect for keeping your garbage disposal nice and clean!
Two ice cube trays hold lemon slices frozen inside ice cubes. Additional frozen lemon ice cubes are scattered on a green marbled surface alongside fresh lemon slices. The vibrant yellow lemons contrast with the icy white trays and cool green background.
Transfer the ice cube tray to the freezer. Once the ice cubes are frozen, pour 3-4 of them into the sink with the garbage disposal running, and prepare for a fresh-scented sink!

How This Hack Works

To prepare the simple kitchen hack, start by chopping the lemon peels into small pieces. You want to ensure that they’re small enough to fit into the ice cube tray! Next, divide the peels evenly amongst the cavities of the ice cube tray.

Finally, fill each cavity with the white vinegar, until the lemon peels are completely submerged in the vinegar. Transfer the ice cube tray to the freezer. Once the ice cubes are frozen, pour 3-4 of them into the sink with the garbage disposal running, and prepare for a fresh-scented sink!

Frequently Asked Questions

Will these cubes actually clean my garbage disposal?

Yes! The white vinegar helps break down grease and grime buildup on the garbage disposal blades, while the lemon adds a light and refreshing scent. It’s the best combo!

How often should I use these ice cubes?

For optimal results, I recommend tossing 3-4 of these cubes into the running garbage disposal about once a week.

Can I use other citrus peels besides lemon?

Yes! This is a great way to reduce your food waste. Orange or lime peels also work well, and you can also combine different types of citrus peels, if you want. As I always say, use what you have!

I don’t have any white vinegar. Can I use something else?

White vinegar is incredible for cleaning, so I highly recommend grabbing some, for this hack.
