One of my favorite fruits to enjoy in the summertime is cherries. Cherries are bright, colorful, and packed with antioxidants, making them a true superfood. However, if there’s one thing that I don’t enjoy about cherries, it’s the pits!

Cherry pits are toxic to both humans and animals – and, not to mention, they’re incredibly annoying. There’s nothing worse than wanting to enjoy a bowl of cherries and getting caught up dealing with the pits. If you’re ready to say goodbye to cherry pits forever, then you’re going to love this hack!

Plus, if you’re prepping cherries for a recipe like my Frozen Cherry Margaritas or my Gluten-Free Sugar Cookie Cherry Cobbler (that also happens to be sugar-free!) then you are going to love this simple hack. It makes preparing the cherries a breeze, so your favorite cherry-based recipes come together faster than ever!

What You Need for This Simple Cherry Hack

You only need two things in order to make this hack work: cherries and a metal straw. It’s that simple! Be sure to use a metal straw, as paper and plastic straws are NOT strong enough for this hack.

These are my favorite metal straws and I always have them on-hand in my kitchen.

How This Hack Works

Start by washing your cherries and removing the stems from them. Then, use the metal straw to push down into the center of the cherry. The pit should pop out on the other side of the cherry!

Repeat until all of the cherries are pitted. Then, add them to your favorite recipes or enjoy them whole. That’s it!

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a plastic straw work?

Unfortunately, no. A plastic straw is too flimsy and won’t work well for this hack.

Will this hack damage the cherries?

There’s a chance that the straw could tear the cherry slightly, so be careful and don’t be too forceful when pushing the straw through!

What if the pit doesn’t come out easily?

If the cherry is very ripe or the straw gets stuck, try pushing the straw against a cutting board for some extra leverage.
