This viral recipe is the best thing since charcuterie boards… and it is currently taking TikTok by storm. That’s right, my Viral Butter Board is a fun and creative recipe will have you enjoying traditional bread and butter like never before. Plus, it comes together in only 10 minutes, and is perfect for serving a large crowd. With the holidays right around the corner, this is the perfect recipe to keep in your back pocket and make for all of your holiday events!

Friends, have you ever seen anything more beautiful than a board full of butter?! I mean it when I say that it truly might be the best thing since a charcuterie board. In fact, dare I say, a butter board may just be my new favorite, crowd-pleasing appetizer, even ABOVE a charcuterie board. Yep, I really do mean it.
After all, delicious, creamy, salted butter, topped with a variety of delicious seasonings and schmeared on toasted bread? It’s truly a match made in heaven. In fact, it’s so good, you’ll want to keep this entire butter board to yourself! But don’t worry, I won’t shame you if you do. After all, your body needs carbs to function, and butter IS a carb, right?! 😉 If you get that reference, you’re my new best friend.
And while I’d love to take credit for this amazing creation, I have to give credit to my friend, Justine, of @justine_snacks on TikTok who created this incredible food trend that is taking the internet by storm. Her recipes are incredible, and I love her take on this recipe!
But all jokes aside, this is the perfect recipe to pair alongside your favorite bread. In the video above, I pair it with slices of a delicious, sourdough loaf from one of my favorite bakeries in San Francisco, The Mill. But if you want to keep this recipe gluten-free, fear not! You can easily pair this butter board with slices of your favorite gluten-free bread, or try my Paleo Nut and Seed Bread for a delicious, easy, homemade loaf!

What You Need to Make This Crowd-Pleasing Appetizer
While there are an endless amount of flavor combinations you can use to bring your butter board to life, this combination is sure to please! With sautéed garlic, fresh scallions, and plenty of flaky salt (an absolute MUST when it comes to butter boards, in my opinion), this combination can’t be beat!
- Butter: Of course, you can’t make a butter board without the butter! Any butter that you like will work with this recipe – grass-fed, dairy-free, raw, or conventional butter. Oh, and don’t worry about salted vs. unsalted, as both work here as well. However, if you use unsalted, just make sure to add extra salt to your butter board!
- Lemon: Fresh lemon and butter is an unbeatable combination, and in this butter board, it’s just too good.
- Flaky Sea Salt: If there’s one thing that all TikTok food creators can agree on, it’s that butter boards require lots of salt – specifically, flaky sea salt. Something about the combination of flaky salt and butter is perfectly delicious, and transcends every butter board recipe.
- Garlic: Fresh garlic is key here. We’ll be sautéing it in olive oil for the perfect, toasty flavor.
- Olive Oil: Since this board has plenty of healthy fats as is, we’ll just be using a small amount of olive oil to sauté our garlic in!
- Chives: Chives not only add the most beautiful color to this butter board, but they also add the perfect flavor.
- Salted Marcona Almonds: Marcona almonds are toasty, salty, and add a nice, crunchy texture to this butter board.
- Aleppo Pepper: And for an extra kick, we’ll be adding some Aleppo pepper. This is optional, but if you love a little bit of spice, then you will love this addition!

How to Make This Simple, Easy, and Delicious Butter Board
Making this butter board is so easy! Simply start by taking your softened butter and spread it across a cutting board. There’s no exact technique to this – just use a knife or a spatula to spread it around.
Next, squeeze the juice of one lemon on top of the butter, and add a generous sprinkle of flaky sea salt. Then, put your board to the side.
Now prepare the garlic. Heat some olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat and add in the garlic once the oil is hot. Sauté the garlic for about 3-4 minutes, or until it’s golden and crispy. Once it’s done, remove it from the heat and let it cool for 2 minutes.
While the garlic is cooling, prepare the rest of the toppings for the board. Chop the chives and marcona almonds and sprinkle them across the board. Once the garlic is cool, add the garlic, then top everything with a little more flaky sea salt and Aleppo pepper.
Finally, serve immediately with your favorite crusty bread, and enjoy!

Just have a couple of questions….Salted or unsalted butter? Do you leave the garlic cloves whole or sliced?
Hi Renee, any of the above options work well!
