Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Smoothie

 June 18, 2021

Your favorite cookie just got turned into your favorite breakfast / post workout treat… whaaaat?! I. KNOW. This Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Smoothie is about to blow your mind. With only six ingredients, no refined sugar, and a whole lot of protein, get ready to meet your new favorite breakfast- and I don’t say that lightly.

If there’s one thing you should know about me from reading this blog, it’s that I am obsessed with cookies. Maybe you found me from my Life Changing Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookies, or one of my other viral cookie recipes. Either way, it’s safe to say that my love for cookies knows no bounds, especially when it comes to making better-for-you cookies with whole ingredients. So naturally, if there’s an opportunity for me to “cookie-fy” any non-cookie-related food, I’m absolutely going to jump on it. And hence, this oatmeal raisin cookie smoothie was born.

Oatmeal raisin cookies often get a bad rep for being “boring”, or “like a disappointing chocolate chip cookie” to which I say, I disagree! Sure, oatmeal raisin cookies aren’t a chocolate chip cookie, but in no way does it make them boring. They are a respectable cookie, and a delicious one, at that, and I will prove it to you with this smoothie!

I love a good smoothie after my morning workouts, to help me refuel and get that extra boost of plant-based protein. And not only is this smoothie packed with protein, thanks to a healthy scoop of protein powder, but it’s also incredibly sweet and delicious! We’re getting our sugars from raisins and bananas, our carbs from rolled oats, and setting ourselves up for health and success. This smoothie is quite literally a liquid cookie, and might just be the best smoothie recipe I’ve ever created.

What you need to make this smoothie

To make this smoothie, all you need are six (or seven!) different ingredients. All of these are super easy to find, and are either shelf-stable or frozen (minus the milk). It couldn’t be simpler to make this smoothie every single day, if you wanted to!

  • Frozen Bananas: I love freezing bananas to put in my smoothies; not only are they incredibly sweet and full of vitamins, but when they’re frozen, they make smoothies suuuuuper thick. If thick smoothies aren’t your jam, then you can totally use non-frozen bananas.
  • Non-Dairy Milk: Pick your favorite milk; I usually go for almond, but any plant milk will work.
  • Rolled Oats: It wouldn’t be an oatmeal raisin cookie smoothie without the oats! If you are gluten-sensitive, make sure that you’re using gluten-free rolled oats.
  • Raisins: The raisins add a touch of sweetness and fiber to this smoothie!
  • Cinnamon: A dash of cinnamon will help balance the flavors and make this taste just like a cookie.
  • Vanilla Protein Powder: Any plant-based protein powder works here! Just pick your favorite.
  • Cashew Butter: If you want to boost your healthy fats and proteins, and add a bit more depth to the flavor, some cashew butter is a great addition to this smoothie! The cashew butter is what gives this smoothie that cookie taste, so if you have it, use it. Otherwise you can substitute for another nut butter, or leave it out entirely.

Tips for making the perfect smoothies

  1. Frozen fruit is king: Frozen fruit is the key to achieving a thick and creamy smoothie. If you use fresh fruit, even with the addition of ice, the smoothie won’t achieve the same consistency!
  2. Change up the amount of liquid: If your smoothie is too thick and not blending correctly, add in some milk. If it’s too runny, add in more frozen fruit. Keep playing around and re-blending until you achieve your desired consistency.
  3. If you want to “up” your veggie intake: Try adding in some frozen cauliflower! Frozen cauliflower is a great addition to smoothies because it adds an extra boost of veggies but doesn’t change the flavor. This is especially great if you have kids who are pick when it comes to their vegetables!

This smoothie is FANTASTIC! When you’re wanting a cookie but still want to be good this is IT! We did however cut the banana back to one and the oats, raisins, cashew butter. & cinnamon in 1/2 while using a full scoop of vanilla protein powder. I would give this one a try if you haven’t already!! We will be making this again!!!!!

    • Suzy, thank you so much for this amazing review! I am so thrilled that you loved this recipe and found a version that also works best for you!

  2. This was excellent!! Perfect taste and texture, and makes you feel good drinking it! Hubby approved, too! Another winner!

I only had one frozen banana left in my fridge (I know! The audacity!) so I had to make some adjustments for a single serving version as well as some minor substitutions because why not. And guys… this turned out so good. I was bringing my glass into every room of the house finding people and forcing them to take a sip. I fucking had to make another one for my grandma but I guess I was kind of asking for it lol

    1 banana
    1/4 cup cauliflower, heaped
    1/6 cup (20g) raisins
    1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
    1 tbl flaxseed
    1 scoop vanilla protein powder
~4 nondairy milk icecubes (optional) and water to desired consistency
2tbl (10g) rolled oats pulsed in

I was skeptical about blending rolled oats (i don’t know why since i drink oat milk haha) but oh my gosh, this smoothie was a perfect post workout snack! I didn’t have any cashew butter on hand so I subbed organic PB and still tasted ahh-mazing!!!!

  6. I made this with only 1 banana, as 3 sound like way too much for a single smoothie and I added 1/4 cup of riced cauliflower, it was tasty.

This is my new favorite smoothie! I grew up eating the grandmas iced oatmeal cookies from the store and this smoothie tasted BETTER! (I don’t like raisins so I didn’t add them). Delicious and so easy to make. Thank you for this recipe! (I forgot to tap the stars so this is a repost)

Hands down the best smoothie and so perfect for those hot day (or really any day) when it’s too hot to bake and you need to satisfy that cookie craving. The texture from the frozen bananas & raisins makes it more like a milkshake or Frosty from Wendy’s. It’s SO GOOD!!! I only had sunflower seed butter on hand and it tasted just fine. LOVE this recipe!!!

    • You are the BEST! Thank you so much for sharing your honest review, it means the world to me! And it’s my favorite, too! XOXO
