Friends, do you have a favorite non-dairy milk? While some people love oat milk, and others are all about the soy milk, for me, my go-to has always been almond milk. I love how silky smooth and creamy it is, and the mild flavor that it adds to any recipe. Whether I’m using it in a creamy smoothie, blending it into a soup, or adding a splash of it to my morning coffee, almond milk is one of the most frequently-purchased ingredients in my kitchen. It’s one of the best dairy-free milk alternatives!

But, if there’s one thing that I don’t love about almond milk… it’s the cost. Here in San Francisco, a single carton of organic almond milk can cost as much as $8. And for someone who cooks as frequently as I do, that price is truly unsustainable. Luckily, there’s another way, and that’s where this recipe comes in.

This is truly the simplest and easiest way to make homemade almond milk in a pinch. The secret to making this recipe is to use slivered almonds, rather than whole almonds. Why is that? Well, slivered almonds already have the skins removed from them, which means that the blend smoothly and easily. No more spending precious time removing the skins, straining them out at the end. This recipe takes the most “annoying” step of making almond milk out of the process, so that you can have the most delicious milk in a fraction of the time.

Various jars and bottles containing ingredients like sliced almonds, a dark liquid, and spices are arranged on a wooden tray against a marbled background. A glass of water is also visible.
To make this milk, you’ll need slivered almonds, water, vanilla extract, and maple syrup.
A blender container filled with almonds has water being poured into it. The container is on a countertop with jars and ingredients around it. The background has a light, textured surface.
Start by adding the slivered almonds and water to the base of a high-speed blender.

The 4 Ingredients You’ll Need to Make This Almond Milk

    • Slivered Almonds: The key to making this almond milk is to use slivered almonds, rather than whole almonds. Slivered almonds already have the skins removed from them, which means that they’ll blend really easily. It’s perfect!
    • Water: A little water is essential to helping this almond milk reach the perfect, milky texture.
    • Vanilla Extract: A pinch of vanilla extract adds the perfect vanilla flavor to this milk! If you want to make a plain or unflavored almond milk, you can always omit the vanilla.
    • Maple Syrup: I love adding a touch of maple syrup to this almond milk, to make it slightly sweet without the refined sugars. Again, if you prefer a plain milk, you can always omit this!
A hand pours liquid from a small glass bottle into a blender. The blender contains water and slivered almonds. Jars with ingredients and a scoop are nearby, set against a textured stone background.
Then, add in the rest of the ingredients: the vanilla extract and the maple syrup, if using.

How to Make Homemade Almond Milk in Less Than One Minute

To make this almond milk, add all of the ingredients (the slivered almonds, water, vanilla extract, and maple syrup) to a blender. Blend on high-speed until the milk is perfectly smooth and creamy.

Transfer the milk into a jar and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to use it. Add it to your favorite recipes and enjoy!

A blender filled with a creamy liquid is on a kitchen counter. Surrounding it are glass jars containing sliced almonds, honey, and spices. A small glass bottle holds dark syrup. The background features a textured, warm-toned wall.
Blend the ingredients together until a smooth and creamy almond milk forms.

A glass of almond milk on a wooden board, surrounded by sliced almonds, a glass bottle of milk, a jar of vanilla extract, and a ceramic bowl containing more almond slices.
Once the milk is done, add it to your favorite recipes or pour it into a glass and enjoy! Store any leftovers in the fridge for up to one week.
