Say goodbye to spending $8 on overpriced matcha lattes from the coffee shop, because once you see how easy this recipe is, you’ll want to make them at home from hereon out! My Easy Iced Matcha Latte is sweet, creamy, delicious, and the perfect way to get your matcha fix. It’s made with high-quality, ceremonial grade matcha and my homemade vanilla oat milk for a combination that will make for your new daily favorite drink!
Friends, let me tell you a little fun fact about me: I’ve never met a matcha latte that I didn’t like. Matcha tends to be one of those more polarizing ingredients, but personally, I LOVE it. In fact, I love it so much that I even rounded up The 5 Best Matcha Shops in the San Francisco Bay Area.
But, even at those coffee shops, a single oat milk matcha latte will run you nearly $8, which is a LOT for one drink. Between the matcha shortage and the overall price of groceries these days, it’s an expense that I no longer want to justify, especially when I can make a version that tastes just as good, if not better, at home! My good friend, Olivia, taught me this method when she came and visited me recently, and I’ve been hooked ever since! If you haven’t checked out her page, you must: she is absolutely amazing, and is my go-to when it comes to finding new gluten-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar-free recipes. Oh, and we even did a collaboration together, too!
This Easy Iced Matcha Latte tastes just like the matcha lattes that you can get at a cafe, but made even BETTER. Why? Because we’re using high-quality matcha, homemade vanilla oat milk, and lots of rich honey to make this drink creamy, velvety smooth, and perfectly sweet. I’ve been making this recipe every morning, and I have even been preferring it over my morning coffee! If you’re someone who thinks they don’t like matcha because of the flavor or grittiness, it might be because the matcha hasn’t been prepared the right way. Once you try this preparation, you’ll see just how delicious matcha can be!
You might be asking yourself, “Nicole, why is this matcha so good?!” and let me tell you, there are two reasons why this matcha latte is truly the best ever (and better than any cafe!)
First, we are using high-quality, ceremonial-grade matcha powder. Ceremonial grade is key here: it’s made with younger, higher-quality matcha leaves that contain higher chlorophyll levels. Not only does this give the matcha a better flavor, but it also gives it a deep, rich green color, which is another way to tell how good of a quality your matcha is! High-quality drinking matcha should always be a bright, vibrant green. Culinary matcha, which is meant for cooking and baking, or more inexpensive matchas, on the other hand, will often be a duller green color, because they’re used with leaves that were harvested after their peak freshness.
But the matcha is only the first part. The second reason why this is the best matcha latte, is because we’re pairing it with my homemade vanilla oat milk. This oat milk recipe not only comes together at a fraction of the price of store-bought oat milk, but it is thick, creamy, and never, EVER, slimy. Which means that it’s perfect for all of your matcha-making needs.
To make this drink, start by adding your matcha powder and honey to a glass measuring cup or bowl. Next, pour your hot water into the cup and use a whisk to whisk everything together, until the powder fully dissolves into the water.
In a tall drinking glass, add in your ice cubes and pour in your vanilla oat milk. Finally, pour in your matcha and stir until it’s combined with the milk. Serve immediately and enjoy! This recipe makes one drink, but can easily be doubled to make two!

I’m super caffeine sensitive and especially a quality matcha would take me out if I used two teaspoons! So I reduce to one, even then it is strong for me but bearable. Other than that personal preference this recipe provided great ratios and instructions that I needed to make sure I get consistent flavor each time. Thank you!
I am glad you were able to make this recipe work for you!
This recipe as written was a little bitter for me. Next time I’ll try it with 1 tsp of matcha and see how it goes. Like that it’s sweetened with honey, it tastes similar to buying it, just stronger.
I’m sorry to hear that! You can absolutely add in more sweetener!
Hi, I’m wondering if you can make a bigger batch of this and how long it would keep for?
Hi Jennifer, I don’t recommend preparing matcha in advance.
