With October right around the corner we are well into pumpkin season, which means it’s time to bust open the cans of pumpkin and start making your favorite fall recipes! From pumpkin spice loaves to the famous pumpkin spice latte, there are so many unique ways to include pumpkin and get into the holiday spirit. But if there’s one fall ingredient that is just as essential as the pumpkin itself… it’s pumpkin pie spice.

Pumpkin Pie Spice is what gives pumpkin recipes their warm, spicy, toasty flavor that you know and love. It’s a simple blend of seasonings that has become so popular that you can now buy it pre-bottled at most grocery stores (or on Amazon!) However, there inevitably comes a time where you’ll forget it at the grocery store or want to make a batch of life-changing pumpkin cookies, only to realize that you’re fresh out of Pumpkin Pie Spice. Luckily, there’s a solution for that.

It’s super easy to make pumpkin pie spice from scratch. In fact, it takes less than five minutes! All you need are a few simple ingredients and you’ll have enough Pumpkin Pie Spice to last you through the spooky season (and, of course, you can easily double or triple the recipe to make more.)

All of the ingredients needed to make this pumpkin pie spice, laid out in individual bowls on a countertop
To make this pumpkin pie spice, you will need ground cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, and allspice. That’s it!

Add all of the spices to a small bowl and mix them until they’re fully combined.

The 4 Ingredients You’ll Need to Make This Pumpkin Pie Spice

Making this Pumpkin Pie Spice from scratch is so simple and easy, and you’ll only need 4 ingredients in order to make it!

    • Ground Cinnamon: Ground cinnamon has that perfectly toasty warm flavor that is key to all of your favorite fall recipes! Plus, cinnamon is loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a star superfood ingredient of this Pumpkin Pie Spice recipe.
    • Ground Ginger: Pumpkin Pie Spice has a slightly spicy flavor, and that comes from the ground ginger.
    • Nutmeg: Contrary to its name, nutmeg does not come from a nut. It comes from a seed! Ground nutmeg is slightly sweet and perfect for this Pumpkin Pie Spice.
    • Allspice: Just like how nutmeg isn’t a nut, allspice isn’t… well, a combination of all spice. It is technically a berry that is derived from a plant called pimenta diocia. It’s slightly spicy, like ginger, and adds the perfect touch to this seasoning recipe.

Once the pumpkin pie spice seasoning is finished, transfer it to an airtight jar and store the seasoning in the pantry for up to three months. Enjoy!

How to Make and Store This Pumpkin Pie Spice

This recipe could not be any simpler to make. It truly comes together in a pinch!

Simply add all of the ingredients together in a small bowl and mix until they’re fully combined. Once the Pumpkin Pie Spice is done, transfer it to a glass jar and store it in the pantry for up to three months. Use it in any recipe that calls for pumpkin spice, and enjoy!

5 Ways to Use This Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice

While there are so many different ways that you can use this homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice, these are a few of my favorite ways to use it!

    • Add it to coffee: In addition to making a pumpkin spice latte, you can also sprinkle a dusting of Pumpkin Pie Spice over your coffee for an extra dose of pumpkin-y flavor.
    • Make overnight oats: Overnight oats are a simple and easy protein-packed breakfast recipe that is perfect for using this pumpkin pie spice in.
    • Add it to a smoothie: A pumpkin pie smoothie is the perfect way to use this homemade pumpkin pie spice!
    • Make my Life Changing Tahini Chocolate Chip Cookies: These cookies are called life-changing for a reason. And with a little dose of pumpkin added to them? It truly doesn’t get any better than that.
    • Try it in a pasta: Pumpkin is a delicious, creamy ingredient that is perfect over pasta, and a dash of homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice truly adds in the best flavor.
