How I Stay Calm During the Holiday Season

 December 2, 2021

Friends, can you believe that it’s already the holidays?! 2021 flew by in the blink of an eye, and it’s crazy to believe that the holidays season is already here. It feels as if it really snuck up on us this year, and there’s still so much to do before Santa comes to town!

I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. It seems as if every year, the holidays come up quicker and quicker, and before we know it, there’s still so much on our to-do lists to get done – so much so, that it can take away from our ability to actually enjoy the holidays. And let’s be honest, the holidays should NOT be that way!

This year, I am really working to make a concerted effort to focus on being calm and present this holidays season, and that includes taking care of myself and prioritizing my own personal wellness. As a mom and a business owner, I often find myself being dead-last on my to-do list, but this year, I’m saying, “no more!”

It probably sounds so cliche, but unless we are taking time and space to take care of ourselves, we really can’t operate at our full-capacity. In other words – your to-do list won’t get done unless you are actively taking care of yourself!

Back in my days of working in law (fun fact: I used to be a lawyer before I started Kalejunkie!), self-care was not a concept that I knew or embodied. And granted, time was absolutely limited, thanks to my job in Big Law, which left me little-to-no time to think about anything other than eating or breathing. But even so, I can see now just how damaging that mindset was. My body was screaming for rest and relaxation, and I was ignoring it!

But now that I’m older, wiser, and I’ve done the work to consciously prioritize my self-care (and let me tell you, it’s not easy), I’m learning now that when life is busy AF, making sure I take space for myself is more important than ever before! That’s when I really need it the most, and when I see the small actions that I take pay off in big ways.

So, this year, even despite the crazy holiday season, I am choosing to remain calm and take small actions to focus on myself. And guess what? You can too!

In this post, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite methods for keeping my calm during the holidays, and how I’ll be prioritizing my self-care and personal wellness this holiday season!

01. – Taking Space to Move my Body

If you’ve followed my blog for a while, then you may know that I am BIG on fitness. I have actively had a workout / fitness routine since I was in high school, and I can’t imagine my life without some sort of fitness in it. Needless to say, I need it to help keep me calm and grounded, especially during the holiday season!

For so many of us, when life gets stressful, our workouts tend to be the first thing on our list to go. I mean, we could use that hour for so many other things, right? But instead, I want to encourage you to take a look at the other areas of your life where you could make some more time.

For example, do you scroll your phone first thing in the morning, or right before you go to bed? What if you cut out that time to do something that’ll make your body feel good, instead? Sometimes, self-care comes with a little bit of sacrifice, but I promise it’s only for your greater good!

02. – Remembering to Take my CBD

Let’s be honest: sometimes, just working out or writing in my journal isn’t enough, and I need a little help from a… special friend. A special, cannabis, friend that is: CBD! I have been a huge advocate of CBD for years, because it truly works to help me feel more calm, ground, and centered. Plus, CBD is completely non-psychoactive, so you can still take it and go about your regular day!

CBD, or cannabidiol, as it’s scientifically-known as, is a derivative of the cannabis plant, but doesn’t contain THC, which is the cannabinoid that is responsible for the psychoactive nature of cannabis. Instead, CBD provides a similar comforting, calming quality that THC does, but without the psychoactive response.

My favorite CBD is, hands-down, by Highline Wellness, and if you or someone you love has been wanting to try them, then now is the perfect time! They just released two new kits just in-time for the holiday season, and not only are the products inside amazing, but they’re such a good deal, as well. Don’t forget to use code KALEJUNKIE on all of your Highline Wellness purchases to save 15%!

  1. Their first kit is the Dusk Kit, which is PERFECT for anyone who has trouble winding down at night! It has their CBD cream, their CBD bath bomb (my favorite Highline Wellness product!), their CBD gummies, and a rollerball oil, which means it’s full of a ton of their best products! I highly recommend this kit for anyone who needs a little more “calm” in their life, this holiday season!
  2. Their second kit is the Holiday Cheers Kit, which is a holiday twist on two of their most popular products! It has their CBD gummies in an exclusive champagne flavor (and who doesn’t love champagne during the holidays?!) as well as a Relief Roller, because let’s be honest, we all need a little tension relief this season. This is a limited edition kit, and makes for the perfect gift for anyone who is new to the world of CBD!

03. – Making Time for Meditation and Journaling

And just like with working out and taking my CBD, one of my new daily, non-negotiable habits to help me find my calm this holiday season has been keeping up a meditation and journaling practice. Now, I’ll admit, this is NOT something that comes naturally to me, but I’m realizing more and more just how important it is!

Having even 10 minutes per day to get grounded in my body and work through any emotions from the previous day has done wonders to make sure that I walk into a new day with a clean slate! My practice isn’t perfect, but I’m doing my best, and so far, it’s working well. 🙂

And there you have it! These are three tools / practices that I am using to help stay calm during the holiday season! If you try out any of these practices, or pick up any of Highline Wellness‘ new kits, tag me in a story on Instagram and share them! I would love to see and support you on your journey of cultivating your own sense of calm… holiday season, or not.
