One of the things I have been most interested in learning about lately, is food waste.
As an avid food blogger, you’d think that I know all about this topic, but if I’m being honest, I don’t. And it’s ok, there’s no better time than the present to learn and do better! I am also being more mindful these days, in selecting brand partners that are actively involved in the movement towards reducing food waste.
Last month, I was invited to participate in a campaign with Two Good Yogurt, which already happens to be one of my favorite yogurt brands. Their yogurts contain only 2 grams of sugar per 5.3 ounce serving, and they are so creamy and delicious! They come in a variety of flavors, but I am most obsessed with the lemon flavor because it tastes like a lemon meringue pie!
Through this partnership, I learned that food waste is actually the #1 contributor to climate change! I had no idea. It turns out that, in general, only 75-80% of fruit is utilized in products that make their way to the marketplace, to consumers.
That other 20% is food loss! And what I learned, is that much of that 20% that would otherwise be lost, is actually perfectly good and usable fruit!
Two Good recently partnered with Full Harvest, an organization whose mission it is to reduce food waste at the ground level. Together, they are on a mission to save the Meyer lemons that would have otherwise gone to waste, and Two Good uses these lemons (all sourced from California-based farms) in their lemon flavor yogurt! I think that’s pretty cool.
These yogurts are sold exclusively at Target, and here are a few of my favorite flavors!
Plain yogurt (so tangy and so good!)
You heard it here first!
