Greyhound Basil Mocktail

 July 20, 2022

Whether this is a #SoberSummer for you, or you’re just looking for fun alcohol-free mocktails, then get ready, because this mocktail recipe will change your life! My Greyhound Basil Mocktail is an alcohol-free twist on one of my favorite classic cocktails that will make you feel like you’re on a fabulous summer vacation.

Let’s be honest, friends: it’s no secret that I love a cocktail. Whether it’s spicy and sweet or cool and refreshing, when it comes to cocktails, I don’t discriminate. It’s one of life’s simple pleasures, and a simple cocktail can make a night so much more fun. Especially, during the summer.

But at the same time, I’m also learning how to strike a balance between indulging in life’s pleasures, and taking care of my health and well-being. As delicious as a cocktail is, it’s no surprise that it’s not the best for us; alcohol isn’t exactly considered a health food. Which is why a mocktail is truly the best of both worlds. It gives you the taste of a cocktail, without the health impacts from the alcohol.

And speaking of mocktails, if you are looking for more delicious recipes, then you need to try my Frozen Mezcal Mango Margarita and my No Sugar Added Watermelon Frosé. While both of these drinks do contain alcohol, they can easily be made alcohol-free, and recipes for both are included in their respective posts!

What You Need to Make This Delicious, Salty Mocktail

Would you believe me if I told you that you only need five simple ingredients to make the mocktail of your dreams? It’s true! This recipe is so simple and easy, and the ingredients could not be better.

  • Basil Leaves: Fresh basil leaves are essential to making this delicious mocktail! I love buying a fresh basil plant and keeping it on my counter, so that I have fresh basil ready-to-go when the mocktail craving strikes! If you’ve never bought a fresh basil plant, you can get them at Trader Joe’s for just a couple dollars. 🙂
  • Honey: Instead of sweetening this mocktail with simple syrup, we’re sweetening this mocktail with honey! Honey is one of my favorite natural sweeteners to use in mocktails because it’s free of refined sugars (which can be hard on our guts) and adds the perfect amount of sweetness.
  • Grapefruit Juice: The key to taking this mocktail to the next level? Use freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice! While it may seem like a labor of love, I promise that it is worth it, and will add the best flavor to your mocktail.
  • Grapefruit Sparkling Water: Sparkling water adds the perfect, fizzy touch to this mocktail recipe, and adding in grapefruit sparkling water really helps to enhance the grapefruit flavor! I recommend the LaCroix “Pamplemousse” sparkling water, in this recipe! But if you don’t have grapefruit, you can absolutely use a plain sparkling water or club soda.
  • Sea Salt: A little pinch of sea salt adds the perfect touch to this drink!

Can This Mocktail be Made into a Cocktail? Yes, it can!

Although this is a mocktail recipe, I won’t judge you if you want to turn this mocktail into a cocktail. 😉 And luckily for you, it’s super easy to do so!

To make this Greyhound Basil Mocktail into a Greyhound Basil Cocktail, simply add in 2 ounces of either vodka or gin, in addition to the ingredients included above. It’s that easy!

How to Make Your New Favorite Summer Mocktail

This mocktail recipe comes together in just a matter of minutes, making it so simple and easy to throw together!

Simply start by adding your basil leaves and honey to a glass. Then, using a muddler or a spoon, muddle them together, until the aromatics from the basil leaves begin to release. It should smell fragrant!

Once your basil is muddled, squeeze your grapefruit juice into the glass.

Next, add in your sparkling water until the liquid reaches the top, and stir your drink together. If you are adding in vodka or gin, you will add it before you stir!

Finally, top off your mocktail with another honey drizzle, a sprig of basil, and a pinch of flaky salt. Serve your drink immediately, and enjoy this nice, refreshing mocktail on a warm summer day!
