Friends, have you ever had the craving for a delicious, gooey, chocolate cookie first thing in the morning? I know I have! Maybe it’s because I’m obsessed with cookies, but sometimes, I just want a cookie for breakfast. And because I’m a big believer in ALL foods being on the table, if I want a cookie, I’m going to have a cookie!

But with that said, sometimes there are times where I want a cookie, but I also want to set my body up for success throughout the day. And I know that when I have a protein-packed breakfast, I am much happier, I am full of energy, and I am able to tackle all that my day has in-store for me!

This is exactly the reason why I created this recipe. It tastes like a cross between an ooey-gooey chocolate chip cookie, and a creamy, diner-style chocolate milkshake. Only, it’s loaded with protein and good-for-you ingredients, to keep you full and satisfied all day long!

Plus, as I mentioned earlier, this recipe was inspired by the Sami Clarke x Erewhon collaboration smoothie. If you aren’t familiar with this smoothie, it is a gooey, chocolate smoothie that tastes like liquid cookie dough. But lucky for you, you don’t need to shill out $18, or be in LA, to try this smoothie. You can make my version right at home, in a way that is both cheaper and more delicious! 😉

What You Need to Make This Delicious Cookie Smoothie

To make this smoothie, you just need a few simple, easy, and healthy ingredients! It truly couldn’t be simpler, and you may even have some of these ingredients already on-hand!

  • Banana: Bananas make the base for any great smoothie. I highly recommend using frozen bananas, so that your smoothie gets nice and thick.
  • Dates: Dates are not only an antioxidant-rich superfood, but they are also a great source of natural sweetness!
  • Almond Butter: Almond butter adds a dose of plant-based healthy fats and protein. Don’t skip this!
  • Vanilla Collagen: I love using collagen in my protein smoothies! Why? Because it adds a boost of protein without influencing the flavor of any recipe! I like using vanilla collagen in this recipe to add a subtly-sweet vanilla flavor.

  • Chocolate Protein Powder: This not only adds a boost of protein to keep you full and satisfied longer, but also adds a delicious, creamy chocolate flavor! I love the Truvani protein powder in this recipe, but any chocolate protein powder works!
  • Cacao Nibs: Cacao nibs add a delicious, crunchy texture and a sweet chocolatey taste. Yum!
  • Oat Milk: Any non-dairy milk will do, but I highly recommend using oat milk. It is thick and creamy, and adds the perfect texture to this drink!
  • Coconut Whipped Cream: This is optional, but highly recommended. After all, who doesn’t love whipped cream?! I recommend using a coconut whipped cream, to get a boost of antioxidants and keep this recipe dairy-free!

Tips for Making the Perfect Smoothies

Believe it or not, there is an art form to making the perfect smoothie. And I am here to teach you that art form! These are my top three tips for making the perfect smoothies, and I promise, if you follow them exactly, you will end up with a perfect smoothie, every time!

  1. Use frozen fruit: If you love your smoothies nice and thick, then the key is to use frozen fruit! Frozen fruit (like bananas, for example, in this recipe) adds the iciness needed to make a thick smoothie. Since I make a smoothie every day, I pre-peel, slice, and freeze my bananas ahead of time, so that I always have them on-hand!
  2. Play Around with the Liquid Amount: If you find that your smoothie is too thick to blend, don’t panic, it happens to all of us! Just add a bit more milk, blend, then open the cover, scrape down the sides if needed, and blend again. It’s as simple as that!
  3. Blend your smoothie on medium speed. Finally, this tip is key to avoiding any mess! If you blend the smoothie too fast from the beginning, it’s really hard for the blender to properly blend the frozen ingredients – so start lower and then gradually increase the speed over time. I’ve made way too many messes in the kitchen from blending my smoothies too quickly. So, slow and steady wins the race, here!
